This GRLO Bitesized session provided updates on the National Industry PhD Program. Round three received a record 144 submissions, with the Department of Education increasing industry stream awards from 20 to 23. Assessment begins after Easter, with outcomes expected late May to early June. A significant GST change was announced: all industry researcher stream grants will now be paid GST-free, effective immediately, based on ATO advice that grants are generally GST-exempt. Industry partners must determine their own GST obligations with tax specialists. The new Salesforce-based application portal is undergoing cybersecurity assessment and will launch for round four (opening 1 July). The programme, committed for 10 years, continues to demonstrate strong engagement across universities and industry partners, with ongoing improvements to streamline administration and payment processes.
