Etiology and management of fruit diseases of walnut
Stahmann Webster Farming and The University of Queensland have recently kicked off a National Industry PhD Program award researching walnut fruit disease.
This partnership brings together the world class horticulture capabilities of Stahmann Webster and the agricultural research innovation capabilities of The University of Queensland
The project, "Etiology and management of fruit diseases of walnut" will address the critical challenge of bacterial pathogens threatening walnut crops. The goal is to enhance management decisions, eliminate uncertainties in preventing disease outbreaks, and minimise crop losses.
The research will be conducted by PhD candidate Mr Ke Wang, with academic support from Professor Femi Akinsanmi from The University of Queensland, and the industry mentorship of Dr. Miriam Villen King from Stahmann Webster . A noteworthy aspect of the NIPhD Program is that Ke will remain employed by Stahmann Webster throughout his PhD studies, while the company benefits from a salary subsidy funded by the NIPhD Program.
