Implementation science approaches to promote ocular gene therapy into medical care

The “Implementation science approaches to promote ocular gene therapy into medical care” project will enhance the long-standing relationship that the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) has with the University of Melbourne.

Project Overview:

Industry Researcher PhD candidate Fleur O’Hare will undertake an innovative project to develop a framework for Australian institutes to deliver ocular gene therapy. Under the supervision of A/Prof Lauren Ayton, Dr. Thomas Edwards and Prof Keith Martin this project dives deep into regulatory, organisational, clinician, and patient preparedness, aggregating data and dissecting barriers/enablers. The goal? An evidence-based model supporting the Australian healthcare system in implementing ocular gene therapy, expanding capacity, and establishing a sustainable model for sight-saving treatments. Expected outcomes include enhanced capacity and capability for ocular gene therapy delivery, shaping a sustainable model for long-term impact.
