Stakeholders’ perspectives of strategies to embed a culturally tailored iSupport model for carers of people with dementia in community aged care services

🧠 How can research partnerships help improve support for carers of people with dementia—especially in culturally diverse communities?

A new National Industry PhD project is now underway between Murray Mallee Aged Care Group Inc. and Flinders University, supported by the Australian Government Department of Education.

🎯 The focus? Embedding a culturally tailored iSupport model for carers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds—who often face structural barriers to accessing high-quality dementia care training in their preferred language and culture.

This project, titled â€śStakeholders’ perspectives of strategies to embed a culturally tailored iSupport model for carers of people with dementia in community aged care services”, brings together the leadership of Anna Howard (CEO, Murray Mallee Aged Care Group), academic expertise from Professor Lily Xiao and Professor Kate Laver (Flinders University), and the drive of a dedicated PhD candidate, Ms Wendy Wong.

đź’¬ As Wendy shared:
“This incredible opportunity allows me to work on innovative research that addresses critical challenges in aged care, with the potential to improve the quality of life for older Australians. Partnering with Murray Mallee Aged Care Group and Flinders University, I’ll be combining academic rigour with industry expertise to develop solutions that make a tangible difference.”

📢 This is what the National Industry PhD Program is all about—co-designing solutions that matter, building capability, and delivering impact for communities and industry.
