Closing the Cybersecurity Compliance Gap in the Superannuation Industry
Campus Plus is happy to share the launch of a new National Industry PhD Program collaboration advancing cybersecurity resilience in Australia’s superannuation sector.
This partnership brings together the security and governance capability of Team Super and the cybersecurity and risk-governance research expertise of the University of Newcastle to explore why compliance in superannuation often fails to translate into real cyber resilience.
The project, "Closing the Cybersecurity Compliance Gap in the Superannuation Industry" will investigate the drivers behind minimum‑viable compliance, analyse real‑world organisational behaviours, and develop a practical maturity framework tailored to medium-sized funds. The goal is to help organisations move from tick‑box compliance to scalable, risk‑informed, and cost‑effective cybersecurity.
The research will be conducted by PhD candidate Wayne Ingram with academic support from Dr Mark Wallis and Dr Yvonne Fang from the University of Newcastle, and the industry mentorship of Toks Ojo. Congratulations to all involved!
