Beyond Engagement: new approaches to collaboration between Indigenous organisations, research institutions and industry

Campus Plus are pleased to announce a new National Industry PhD project supported through the Industry Researcher stream.

This partnership brings together the world class Indigenous‑led Country management, engagement framework, and research translation capabilities of DABu Jajikal Aboriginal Corporation and the Indigenous studies, intercultural research, and tropical societies expertise of James Cook University to explore Indigenous‑led approaches to collaboration between Indigenous organisations, research institutions and industry.

The research will be conducted by Chris Patterson (pictured with Dabu Jajikal family members) who is the PhD candidate and also CEO of DABu Jajikal Aboriginal Corporation.  Academic support from James Cook University will be from Professor Stewart Lockie and Associate Professor Theresa Petray, and industry mentorship will be provided by Melissa Sinclair of GEORGEO.

The project, “Beyond Engagement: New Approaches to Collaboration between Indigenous Organisations, Research Institutions and Industry” will co‑design, test and translate Indigenous‑led engagement frameworks with Indigenous communities, industry and government partners. The goal is to strengthen equitable partnerships, elevate Indigenous agency and self‑determination, and create sustainable environmental, cultural and economic outcomes through practical research translation.

With thanks to Dr Arnold Mangott from James Cook University for facilitating this award. Congratulations to all involved!
