Decision Support for Space Mission Planning Using Knowledge (Hyper-)Graphs
🚀✨ A new university-industry collaboration has launched in the National Industry PhD Program, driving innovation at the intersection of AI and Australia’s emerging space industry.
The AI‑driven space technology and mission‑planning innovation capabilities of Starbound Space Solutions are combining with the advanced AI, knowledge‑graph reasoning and data integration expertise of Griffith University to explore new AI‑enabled decision- making approaches for complex space mission planning.
The project will involve building knowledge-graph models, develop reasoning and forecasting algorithms, and embed a prototype system into the industry partner’s AI platform to enhance mission analysis and risk prediction. The goal is to deliver more reliable, efficient and intelligent mission coordination tools that strengthen Australia’s sovereign space capability.
The research will be conducted by PhD candidate Shaun Kenyon who is the CTO and Co-Founder at Starbound Space Solutions. Academic support from Dr Zhe Wang from Griffith University, and industry mentorship from Dr Callum McColl from Starbound Space Solutions complete the team delivering collaborative outcomes. Congratulations to all involved!
