Advanced biomanufacturing of novel cosmeceutical ingredients from Australian avocado food waste through the use of microbial biofactories

🧪 Campus Plus is delighted to announce official kick off of a new NIPhD project collaboration transforming avocado food waste into high‑value outcomes!

This partnership brings together the world‑class microbial biomanufacturing and product development capabilities of BiomeCentric and the advanced analytical and bioprocess modelling expertise of The University of Queensland to explore the transformation of Australian avocado food waste into high‑value cosmetic bioactives.

The project, "Advanced biomanufacturing of novel cosmeceutical ingredients from Australian avocado food waste through the use of microbial biofactories", will screen, optimise, and validate the safety and efficacy of novel cosmetic ingredients using advanced skin models. The goal is to deliver Australian‑made, sustainable cosmetic bioactives and establish a scalable waste‑to‑value biomanufacturing platform.

The research will be conducted by PhD candidate Mr David Xiao, with academic support from Dr Jia-Hua SHI and Associate Professor Adrian Oehmen from The University of Queensland, and the industry mentorship of Dr Tristrom Winsley from BiomeCentric.

Congratulations to all involved!
